This October, our wellness focus is on Bone Health with a delicious twist!
In partnership with Sodexo, WCS Lunchrooms across the district are serving up Pumpkin Penne Alfredo this Wednesday as part of our Bite Science series.
With Bite Science, there’s science in every bite — from how we taste and smell to how the food we eat fuels our bodies. Pumpkin Penne Alfredo is rich in calcium and vitamin D–boosting nutrients that help build and maintain strong bones.
👻 We hope our students will dig in, learn, and make your bones spooky strong!

New Statewide Health Initiative
During the 2025 legislative session, Florida Statute 381.992 established the Type 1 Diabetes Early Detection Program.
The Florida Department of Health, in collaboration with Florida school districts, has developed materials to help parents and guardians learn about the early detection of Type 1 diabetes.
👉 These materials are especially for families with children in Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade and are now available online.
📄 Check out the Diabetes Early Detection Program >>https://5il.co/3qbx8 or Visit FL Department of Health Diabetes Website
We encourage parents and guardians to review these resources and stay informed.

Last week, we celebrated the expansion of the Guardian Program. This week, we’re proud to share another big step forward: every WCS teacher and staff member will now wear a CENTEGIX CrisisAlert badge—a powerful tool that instantly calls for help in any emergency.
For Wakulla County Schools, safety isn’t just a requirement—it’s personal. By combining technology, training, and teamwork with our local emergency services, we’re giving families peace of mind every single day.

On August 1st, we welcomed three new Guardians to our Safety Team — John Swanson, Jeff Matson, and our new Director of Safety and Student Conduct, Coleman Wells.
In partnership with the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, our Guardians completed rigorous training in firearms proficiency, defensive tactics, active assailant response, and more. These professionals are prepared to respond when needed so that our staff and students can focus on learning and growing in a safe environment.
📸 Here’s a look at moments from the recent Guardian Graduation and optics training sessions at the WCSO range.

This morning’s Back-to-School Faculty & Staff Pep Rally was one for the books!
Teachers and staff from every corner of Wakulla County Schools packed the Wakulla High School gym to kick off the 2025–2026 school year with school spirit and pride. It was the first district-wide Welcome Back Pep Rally under Superintendent Rick Myhre, and the energy was undeniable.
From the moment they arrived, attendees were greeted by the powerful sounds of the Wakulla High School Marching Band, the WHS Color Guard, and cheerleaders from Riversprings Middle, Wakulla Middle, and Wakulla High—creating a high-energy welcome that set the tone for the year ahead.
🎤 Powerful words were shared by District Employee of the Year Sean Simmons, followed by Colleen Maley, 2025 District Teacher of the Year, who set the gym—and Superintendent Myhre—on fire with her inspiring message.
