FORGE 2025 | Day Three 🗝️
This is what leadership looks like—because when we plan together, grow together, and lead together, our students win.
Forged through purpose, strengthened by growth.

FORGE 2025 | Day Two ⚜️
There’s something powerful about seeing teams dig into the real work—data in hand, goals on the table, and minds aligned on what matters most.
Today at FORGE, leaders across Wakulla
County Schools rolled up their sleeves to look closely at trends, ask the tough questions, and begin shaping the plans that will guide their schools into 2025–2026.
From school-specific data reviews and goal setting to early drafts of School Improvement Plans, the conversations were intentional and forward-focused. There were also reminders to have a little fun along the way! 👑
This is what leadership looks like when it’s forged with purpose.

Wakulla County Schools will offer limited space for Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) for our 2025–2026 school year— available only at Medart Elementary School.
All required documents must be brought in person to Medart Elementary starting Monday, June 30, 2025.
Spots are first come, first serve.
✅ How to Register for VPK:
STEP 1: Visit the Big Bend Early Learning Coalition to apply for your child’s VPK Certificate of Eligibility.
STEP 2: Print your certificate once received.
STEP 3: Bring the following documents in person to Medart Elementary beginning June 30:
Printed VPK Certificate of Eligibility
Up-to-date shot record
Copy of your child’s birth certificate
One document that shows caregiver’s current address (e.g. government issued document, utility bill).
🌟 Why Early Support Matters:
A strong start in early learning can make a lasting difference!
If you feel your child may benefit from a Pre-K diagnostic screening, email Deenn Peeples at deeann.peeples@wcsb.us, or call (850) 962-4881 for more information and/or to schedule an appointment.

FORGE 2025 | Day One Recap 🔨
Today marked the beginning of something new for professional learning at Wakulla County Schools.
FORGE 2025 brought together administrators, learning leaders, and district staff for a leadership summit designed to inspire connection, reflection, and growth.
With the theme “Forged through Purpose, Strengthened by Growth,” Day One focused on aligning our shared goals for the 2025–2026 school year.
Day One highlights included:
• A powerful welcome and message from Superintendent Rick Myhre
• A review of our 5-Year Strategic Plan
• A collaborative “big picture” data activity to examine districtwide trends
• Breakout sessions to develop clear, actionable goals that support our long-term vision
• A unified conversation on building more consistent expectations around student discipline
• And a little bit of friendly competition!
FORGE isn’t just a workshop—it’s the foundation for everything we’re building next in Wakulla. The momentum continues tomorrow at FORGE as leaders will dive deeper into school-level planning and improvement.

Parents and Guardians,
Wakulla County Schools are actively monitoring the active shooter situation at FSU. A small number of students were on a field trip in Tallahassee to participate in the Special Olympics Torch Run, and they have all been accounted for safely. Their return to Wakulla County may be delayed as law enforcement in Tallahassee is responding to the active situation. Their return may impact the timing of our afternoon bus routes, and more information will be shared as that timing is better known.
All WCS schools are still operating as normal and will dismiss at the regular time. We appreciate you patience as we work through this unfortunate situation.
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved at FSU, and we will be prepared to assist our students and families who may be impacted directly.

No school due to inclement weather

Calling all future War Eagle families!

We can’t wait to welcome the Class of 2029!

At today’s Keep Florida’s Future Bright Assembly, coworkers of Mr. Sean Simmons made sure Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. heard loud and clear why Sean should be named Florida’s School-Related Employee of the Year.
Wearing stickers that read “Ask Me Why Sean Simmons Should Be Florida’s Employee of the Year,” staff and students proudly held signs and shared stories of his incredible impact. Senior Sam Donaway wrapped it up perfectly by asking Commissioner Diaz to “Vote for Mr. Simmons!”
We’re so proud—and we’re cheering you on, Sean!

BIG NEWS, WAKULLA!
Please join Superintendent Myhre and the entire Wakulla County School District in celebrating Mr. Sean Simmons, who has been named one of only five statewide finalists for Florida’s 2025 School-Related Employee of the Year! 🏆
If you know Sean, you know this recognition could not be more deserved. He has quietly, humbly, and consistently poured his heart into serving students with disabilities at Wakulla Institute—year after year, moment after moment. His impact has touched countless students, families, and coworkers across our district.
This honor from the Florida Department of Education is a powerful reminder that kindness, patience, and service do get noticed. And while we already know he’s a winner, we’re cheering him on as he remains in the running for Florida’s 2025 School-Related Employee of the Year, to be announced in the coming weeks!
Congratulations, Sean! We are so proud of you. You represent the very best of Wakulla.
