On August 1st, we welcomed three new Guardians to our Safety Team — John Swanson, Jeff Matson, and our new Director of Safety and Student Conduct, Coleman Wells.
In partnership with the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, our Guardians completed rigorous training in firearms proficiency, defensive tactics, active assailant response, and more. These professionals are prepared to respond when needed so that our staff and students can focus on learning and growing in a safe environment.

This morning’s Back-to-School Faculty & Staff Pep Rally was one for the books!
Teachers and staff from every corner of Wakulla County Schools packed the Wakulla High School gym to kick off the 2025–2026 school year with school spirit and pride. It was the first district-wide Welcome Back Pep Rally under Superintendent Rick Myhre, and the energy was undeniable.
From the moment they arrived, attendees were greeted by the powerful sounds of the Wakulla High School Marching Band, the WHS Color Guard, and cheerleaders from Riversprings Middle, Wakulla Middle, and Wakulla High—creating a high-energy welcome that set the tone for the year ahead.
🎤 Powerful words were shared by District Employee of the Year Sean Simmons, followed by Colleen Maley, 2025 District Teacher of the Year, who set the gym—and Superintendent Myhre—on fire with her inspiring message.

A grab-and-go breakfast was provided to keep our educators fueled as they headed into a day of professional learning and preparation for students’ return.

🚌 Wakulla Families—We need your help!
We need all of our families to log into FOCUS to fill out your Transportation Preference Form for the 2025–2026 school year.
🚗 Car rider? You still need to complete the form. Select CAR RIDER and then SUBMIT
🚍 Bus rider? De-Select “CAR RIDER” AND then add:
•Morning and afternoon pick-up/drop-off addresses
•Afterschool program information and addresses
•Any special scheduling notes (e.g. different locations on different days, car rider days)
Over 2,500 students ride our buses each year—we’re planning now!

VPK Registration Continues at Medart Elementary!
Wakulla County Schools still has limited VPK space available for the 2025–2026 school year—only at Medart Elementary.
Registration must be completed in person at Medart Elementary. Spots are first come, first served!
📝 What to Do:
1. Apply for your VPK Certificate of Eligibility at > https://elcbigbend.org/parents/vpk/
2. Print your certificate
3. Bring the following to Medart Elementary:
•VPK Certificate of Eligibility
•Up-to-date shot record
•Birth certificate
•Proof of caregiver’s current address (ex: utility bill, government-issued ID)

Wakulla County Schools is proud to continue partnership with Summer BreakSpot to help fill the hunger gap for families this summer.
Weekend Meal Pick-Up Location:
Riversink Elementary School (530 Lonnie Raker Ln, Crawfordville, FL 32327)
🗓️ Thursdays: July 17 & July 24
⏰ 2:45 PM – 3:30 PM
