While students enjoyed a day away from the classroom, Wakulla County Schools educators and staff were hard at work yesterday.

Teacher Planning Day gave teachers time to prepare for the start of the second nine weeks, finalize first-quarter grades and participate in professional development designed to strengthen teaching, learning and student support across our district.

Professional learning opportunities included:

  • Autism Awareness and Understanding:

School administrators continued specialized autism training, while a new professional learning opportunity through the University of Florida Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) opened for all teachers.

  • Early Childhood Development:

PreK teachers participated in Child Outcomes Summary training, strengthening how they collect, analyze and use information to document student growth and progress.

  • Inclusive Art Instruction:

Art teachers participated in FDLRS training focused on teaching students with disabilities in fine arts, with strategies to support access, participation and success for all learners.

  • Engaging Elementary Music:

Elementary music teachers joined a virtual training hosted by the Florida Elementary Music Educators Association and led by guest clinician Dr. Rob Lyda. Teachers explored ready-to-use activities and strategies designed to engage all students in the elementary music classroom.

  • School Safety and Preparedness:

Our School Guardians participated in specialized active assailant response training to continue strengthening emergency preparedness.

Professional development is an important part of our district’s strategic commitment to continuous improvement. When our educators continue learning, our students benefit.

As we begin the second nine weeks, we are grateful for the teachers, administrators and staff who continue learning, growing and preparing to provide the very best for our students.

Rigorous. Resilient. Relevant.
