WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. — Wakulla County Schools is pleased to announce that elementary enrollment is now more balanced across the district following the implementation of its elementary school rezoning plan, creating greater access to programs and opportunities for students and allowing the district to reopen school choice at Crawfordville, Medart and Riversink Elementary Schools.

This is an important milestone for Wakulla County Schools. By creating more balanced enrollment, the district is better positioned to provide students across its elementary schools with equitable access to instructional programs, services, resources and learning opportunities. It also allows schools to make better use of available classroom space while maintaining the high-quality educational experiences Wakulla County families expect.

As a result, Crawfordville Elementary, Medart Elementary and Riversink Elementary are currently accepting out-of-zone school choice applications. Shadeville Elementary is currently closed for out-of-zone requests.

Out-of-zone applications are also currently being accepted at Riversprings Middle School, Wakulla Middle School and Wakulla High School, based on available capacity.

The district is actively reviewing previously submitted waitlist requests for schools where space is now available. Families with an existing request do not need to submit a duplicate application.

Families interested in School Choice may submit an out-of-zone request through the Focus Parent Portal while requests remain open for the desired school.

In a message to Wakulla County Schools families, Superintendent Rick Myhre highlighted the broader benefits of the district’s successful rezoning effort.

“Not only did the successful rezoning return choice to our families, but it enabled us to add back full-time art and music as well as providing a Pre-K program at each student’s home zoned school. No longer do parents with multiple children have to send their students to two different schools in order to access Pre-K services. The impact of this will be stronger connections with the school our students will attend starting in Kindergarten, more efficient travel times, and increased cohesion for families."

Wakulla County Schools is grateful for the partnership and support of families, school staff and the community throughout the rezoning process. This work has strengthened the district’s ability to maximize resources and expand opportunities for students across Wakulla County. The result is something worth celebrating: strong elementary schools, more balanced enrollment, greater access to programs, and more choices for Wakulla County families.
