Crawfordville, FL – The Wakulla County School Board has officially voted to move forward with a recommendation from Superintendent Richard Myhre to offer the former school site, known as Wakulla Education Center, to the Wakulla Board of County Commissioners (WBOCC).
“This decision opens up a real, tangible opportunity for much needed additional youth recreational fields in Wakulla County, provided the WBOCC accepts the property and begins making site improvements,” stated Superintendent Myhre. The site also has a gym which could be improved to offer additional volleyball, basketball, and pickleball opportunities.
Historic Preservation Efforts and Community Partnership
In addition to the property transfer, a recommendation has been made for the historic preservation of the former school buildings. This preservation initiative would be executed in collaboration with the Wakulla County Christian Coalition. Through this partnership, the School Board hopes to honor and protect its past while supporting future growth and development.
“By taking these steps, we aim to honor and preserve our past while simultaneously paving the way for our current community needs,” Myhre emphasized.
A Win for the Community
This collaborative effort demonstrates the School Board’s commitment to fostering strong community partnerships and enhancing the quality of life for Wakulla County residents. By working together with local organizations and government, the Board is laying the groundwork for sustainable growth while ensuring that the educational and recreational needs of future generations are met. With the proposed improvements and preservation measures, the initiative not only addresses immediate community interests but also sets a positive precedent for cooperative projects in the county moving forward.
