Wakulla COunty Schools District Spelling Bee Winners

CRAWFORDVILLE, Fla. — Wakulla County Schools hosted the 47th Annual District Spelling Bee on Friday, January 16, 2026, bringing together the district’s top student spellers for a morning of focus and determination. The event was held in the Historic Auditorium at the Wakulla County District Office.

This year’s District Spelling Bee featured 13 student participants, each representing their school after advancing through campus-level competitions. Students demonstrated poise, preparation, and perseverance as they worked through increasingly challenging words.

This year’s District Spelling Bee Champion is Makenna Glassner from Riversprings Middle with Siris McKenzie from Wakulla Middle earning the title of Runner-Up. The winning word was “catalyst.”

The Bee was judged by Ms. Megan Smith of English Financial, Mr. Bill Snowden of The Wakulla Sun, and Ms. Sue Anderson, Wakulla County Schools retiree. Ms. Melisa Taylor served as the pronouncer, with Ms. Holly Harden moderating the event.

Wakulla County Schools extends sincere thanks to the principals, teachers, and parents who supported students in preparing for the Bee, as well as district staff who assisted with event setup and logistics. Special appreciation is also extended to The Wakulla Sun for providing a dictionary to the district champion.

Champion Makenna will now advance to the Regional Spelling Bee in Tallahassee, representing Wakulla County Schools.
