Wakulla County Schools is proud to announce that our High School High Tech (HSHT) Program has been recognized with the 2025 Quality Program Award by The Able Trust. This honor was presented at the 2025 HSHT Annual Conference in Orlando, where program coordinators from across Florida gathered for professional development, networking, and sharing best practices.
Under the leadership of Sharon Scherbarth-Simmons, Wakulla High School’s Visually Impaired and Orientation & Mobility Specialist, the HSHT program continues to provide meaningful opportunities for students with disabilities. Currently, 17 WHS students participate in HSHT, engaging skill-building, and hands-on learning that supports independence and future success.
Ms. Scherbarth-Simmons, who accepted the Quality Program Award on behalf of Wakulla County, shared her passion for the work:
“I am so proud to work with students through HSHT. I love when the ‘light bulb’ lights up and they realize they CAN do whatever they want to do and become successful members of society and become independent. I love showing the students different roles and jobs in a field!”
The Able Trust’s HSHT Conference recognizes the essential role coordinators play in shaping strong, student-centered programs. Wakulla County is honored to have Ms. Scherbarth-Simmons representing our district with such excellence. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition and for her continued commitment to preparing our students with disabilities for a successful and empowered future.
