March, 2025 – Talquin Electric Cooperative, Inc. (“Talquin”) selected two Wakulla High School students to participate in the 2025 Talquin Youth Tour, an educational program designed to engage local high school juniors in government, leadership, and the cooperative business model.
Troy Thaxton and Dax Dichio represented Wakulla High School during the two-day experience, which included a visit to the Florida Supreme Court and the Florida Capitol. The sixteen selected high school juniors from Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla Counties were afforded the unique opportunity to sit in the same chairs as the Florida Supreme Court Justices and observe the Florida Senate and Florida House of Representatives in action during Special Session C.
Thaxton was one of four students selected as a delegate to represent Talquin at the National Rural Electric Association’s Youth Tour in Washington, D.C., this June. As a national delegate, he will receive a $1,000 scholarship for college or post-secondary education and will have the opportunity to engage with leaders from across the country.
Dichio, along with other outstanding participants, will receive a $500 scholarship for his involvement in the Tallahassee-based Talquin Youth Tour.
“The students chosen for this year’s Talquin Youth Tour exemplify strong leadership and commitment to their communities,” said Tracy Bensley, General Manager of Talquin. “We are especially proud of our Wakulla High School representatives and look forward to the impact they will make in the future.”
