January 2025 -- Wakulla High School recently took part in the Florida Department of Education’s Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! 2025, embracing this year’s theme: Building Literacy: Constructing the Foundation for Success. Throughout the week, students and staff came together to highlight the importance of reading and foster a love for literacy among learners of all ages.
During Literacy Week, Seniors from the Class of 2025 visited Medart Elementary Pre-K and Wakulla Education Center’s Pre-K, sharing engaging picture books with Wakulla County’s youngest learners.
Additionally, on Tuesday, January 28, Guidance Counselor Jennifer Paterson, and members of the Junior Optimist International Club took the literacy mission even further, reading to students at all four elementary schools in the district. These interactions created a unique opportunity for high schoolers to give back, strengthening connections between students of different ages while reinforcing the joy of reading.
The week also included interactive literacy activities on campus, such as a Read My Shirt Day, where participants sported clothing featuring school-appropriate, meaningful words and quotes.
