Wakulla County School Board Approves Proclamation Establishing “Charlie Kirk Day of Peaceful Civic Discourse”
CRAWFORDVILLE, FL – At their regularly scheduled meeting on September 15th, the Wakulla County School Board unanimously approved a proclamation recommended by Superintendent Richard Myhre establishing October 14, 2025, as “Charlie Kirk Day of Peaceful Civic Discourse” in Wakulla County Schools.
The proclamation reaffirms the School Board’s and Superintendent’s commitment to uphold the nation’s founding principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, as well as the Constitutional right to free speech and the necessity of creating environments to safely exercise that right, while condemning all forms of political violence and harassment.
As proclaimed, on October 14, all Wakulla County School students will receive grade-level appropriate, Florida Standards–aligned instruction on the importance of these unalienable rights and the core values of American life.
“This is not about partisanism,” said Superintendent Myhre. “As Constitutional Officers, we are sworn to uphold the Constitution and provide the highest quality education we possibly can for all children of our community. This horrendous assassination has shaken many, and I believe in my heart this action shows our resolve to address the issue in the most appropriate way possible—education. That is our expertise, and I know that our students will receive so much healing from their teachers working with them to understand and process these events in an appropriate way.”
The proclamation stands as a reminder of the enduring principles that guide both education and civic life in Wakulla County and affirms that education remains the most powerful means of fostering understanding and civic responsibility.
