Centegix Alert system with a badge, map, and red port light.

CRAWFORDVILLE, FL – August 2025 Wakulla County Schools are enhancing emergency response capabilities across all campuses with the launch of a new school safety initiative featuring CENTEGIX CrisisAlert system.

What does that mean for families? It means every teacher, staff member, and even substitutes will wear a small badge with a button that can call for help immediately. The badge can quickly alert school administration when assistance is needed—for example, if a child faints in class, is injured on the playground, or requires urgent medical attention.

Unlike phone apps previously used, the badges don’t rely on school power or Wi-Fi. The system includes built-in resiliency, allowing it to function even if the campus loses power entirely. This ensures schools maintain a reliable layer of security in every type of emergency.

Superintendent Rick Myhre explained it simply:

“As both a father and a Superintendent, I want families to know that we are doing everything possible to protect our kids. This new system makes sure help arrives faster—whether it’s in a classroom, the cafeteria, or out on the playground.”

This change isn’t just local—it’s part of Alyssa’s Alert, a statewide law created in memory of Alyssa Alhadeff, one of the students lost at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. Alyssa’s mother fought for schools in Florida to have faster ways to call for help, and this system is a direct result of that work.

Coleman Wells, WCS Director of School Safety and Student Conduct, explained that the new system will let staff work closely with their safety teams in real time. “CrisisAlert will help us respond faster and smarter when every second matters,” Wells said.
