The basis of this philosophy lies with the views generated from formal NSSE surveys results and less formal written responses to open-ended questions that give the School Improvement Team a rounded view of the school's stakeholders. In addition, the faculty and staff can voice their opinions about the focus of the beliefs and mission statement each year as the School Improvement Plan is shared in draft form before it is adopted.
Changes in the beliefs and mission statement are reflective of our ever-changing society. Involving over the years has been a focus on equipping our children with the technological skills they need to survive and succeed in this fast-paced world. Also, an increase in the motivation of students through actively engaging them has emerged, versus the lecture style of teaching that many of us grew up with and therefore modeled.
However, some core beliefs have remained unchanged over the years. The enduring mission of educators to instill a lifelong love of learning in their students comes to the forefront every year. In addition, Wakulla High School educators believe that it is our job to unlock the potential of every child.
Our Beliefs:
* All students have unique abilities
and are capable of learning.
* Students are motivated and learn best when actively engaged in learning
activities that are relevant to their daily lives and their future
needs.
* Optimum learning takes place in a positive atmosphere of trust and
harmony where students and all staff members are treated with respect
and dignity.
* Reading is the cornerstone of education; therefore, it is our goal
for every student to become an independent life-long reader for learning
as well as for pleasure.
* Technology is a necessity and one of
the major tools with which to improve student performance, in conjunction
with a highly professional and motivated faculty and staff.
The mission of Wakulla High School is to provide an educational program in a safe environment that contributes to the development of each student emotionally, academically, and physically in order for him or her to successfully function in our continually changing, diverse society. Our vision is that 100% of our students will graduate from Wakulla High School with not just a diploma, but also with the technical knowledge, the academic skills, and the personal qualities needed for the future.
