Requirements for Graduation
ENGLISH:
4 credits with major concentration in composition and literature
MATHEMATICS:
3 credits, 1 of which must be in Algebra 1 or its equivalent.
***Freshman entering WHS in 2007-2008 and thereafter need 4 credits of math for graduation.
SCIENCE:
3 credits, 2 of which must have a laboratory component
SOCIAL STUDIES:
3 credits, 1 credit in World History (10th grade); 1 credit in American History
(11th grade); 1/2 credit in Economics and 1/2 credit in American Government
(12th grade)
VOCATIONAL EDUCATION:
1 credit
PERFORMING FINE ARTS:
1/2 credit
***Freshman entering WHS in 2007-2008 and thereafter will need 1 credit of Performing Arts. Two (2) years of successful completion of ROTC with drills meeting this Performing Arts requirement.
LIFE MANAGEMENT SKILLS:
1/2 credit
***Not a requirement for graduation for freshmen entering WHS in 2007-2008 and thereafter.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION:
1 credit consisting of:
- 1/2 elective PE, such as team sports or tennis.
***Classes of 2008, 2009 and 2010-one year of ROTC or one year of Band can waive 1/2 credit PE requirement.
***Class 2011-two years of ROTC or one semester of Marching Band can waive 1/2 credit PE requirement.
- 1/2 Personal Fitness:
1/2 credit to include assessment, improvement, and maintenance of personal
fitness. There is no waiver out of Personal Fitness
ELECTIVES:
8 credits
***Freshman entering WHS in 2007-2008 and thereafter will need 7 credits; four of which must be in an Major Area of Interest.
TOTAL CREDITS:
24 credits
Diploma Types
Standard High School Diploma:
In order to receive a standard high school diploma from Wakulla High School,
students must meet the following requirements:
- 1. Passing scores on the Reading and Math sections on 10th grade FCAT SSS Test
Passing score is required on the FCAT Writing Test for freshman entering WHS in 2006-2007.
- 2. Maintain a 2.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale in all courses for which credit
toward graduation is granted. Elective credit grades earned beyond
the required twenty-four (24) credits may be dropped from
the calculation of the GPA. When a student retakes a course
and earns a higher grade for that course, the higher grade
will be used in computing the cumulative GPA. A student
may only retake a course in which he/she earned a grade
of "D"; or "F".
- 3. Complete twenty-four (24) credits in grades 9-12 as specified in the
Promotion Requirements.
- 4. Beginning with the Class of 1998, all graduation requirements must be
completed by the end of the regular school term in
order for students to participate in Baccalaureate
and Graduation ceremonies under the conditions set
forth in School Board Policy.
Special High School Diploma: Students
participating in exceptional education programs have the option of receiving
regular high school diplomas, special high school diplomas, or a special
certificate of completion. In order to receive a Special Diploma, these students
must earn credits as specified in the Pupil Progression Plan and demonstrate
mastery of the appropriate State Minimum Student Performance Standards. Exceptional
education students and their families must be involved in planning a program
to meet individual student needs.
Certificate of Completion: High
school students must demonstrate mastery of the minimum performance
standards in reading, writing, and mathematics for the 11th grade.
Students who meet state minimum performance requirements and district
credit requirements will be awarded a standard high school diploma.
A student who completes the minimum credit requirements but does
not demonstrate mastery of the minimum performance and does not
pass both parts of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test shall be awarded
a Certificate of Completion.
*Students who fail to pass any of the state required
tests may return to school for the 13th year to attempt to fulfill these
requirements. The school district retains the option to determine how this remediation will take place.
