Bright Futures

Florida has revamped and added to its Bright Futures scholarship program. There are three major scholarships that provide for tuition and fees ranging from 75% to 100% plus a $600/year stipend. The main components are outlined below, but contact a guidance counselor for specific details.

Academic Scholars Award

  • *3.5 weighted GPA in 15 college prep courses
  • *4 English, 3 Math (Alg 1 + above), 3 Science, 3 Social Studies, 2 Foreign Lang.
  • *1270 SAT or 28 ACT scores
  • *75 hours of community service
  • *100% of college tuition and fees paid, plus $600 stipend; renewable if student meets criteria in college.

Medallion Scholars Award

  • *3.0 weighted GPA in 15 college prep courses
    (Note: GPAs are not rounded)
  • *4 English, 3 Math (Alg 1 + above), 3 Science, 3 Social Studies, 2 Foreign Lang.
  • *970 SAT or 20 ACT scores
  • *75% of college tuition and fees paid; renewable if student meets criteria in college

Gold Seal Vocational Award

  • *3.0 weighted GPA; does not require college prep
    (Note: GPAs are not rounded)
  • Credits must be the 15.5 core credits required for high school graduation:

    *4 English, 3 Math, 3 Science, 3 Social Science, 1 Practical Arts OR 1 Performing Arts OR 1/2 credit in each, 1/2 Life Management Skills, 1/2 Personal Fitness, 1/2 Physical Education
  • *3.5 GPA in a Vocational Gold Seal program of 3 or more courses
  • *Passing scores on College Placement Test or SAT/ACT
  • *75% of college tuition and fees paid in vocational-technical school or college; renewable if student meets criteria for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program.
