Carpentry

The Academy of Carpentry at Wakulla High School consists of the following courses:

Carpentry and Cabinetmaking I (8722110)
Carpentry and Cabinetmaking II (8722120)
Carpentry and Cabinetmaking III (8722130)
Carpentry and Cabinetmaking IV (8722140)

Carpentry V (8722150)
Carpentry VI (8722160)

Carpentry I & II together introduced students to necessary competencies of the carpentry industry. During Carpentry I competencies related to safety practices, tool and equipment utilization, identification of building materials, fasteners and hardware, basic math, communication and blueprint reading are introduced. Carpentry II continues to develop in-depth knowledge and skills linked to safety, manual and power tools, the construction industry in America, math applications, communication, blueprint reading, customer relations, employability skills and entrepreneurship.

Carpentry III & IV offers students a real-world experience by building a home right on the campus of Wakulla High School! Students continue to master previous competencies and expand their knowledge in trim and finish carpentry. Students are trained to work with blueprints and specifications, to install an exterior covering and trim, interior doors, interior walls, ceiling coverings, cabinet and shelving.

As a student enters the Carpentry V & VI courses they continue to learn by means of frame and form carpentry. This content deals with the use of a transit; a builder’s level; the construction of forms; the installation of rigging and scaffolding; exterior doors, stairs and window units. They also learn requirements for blueprints and specifications; site preparation; framing members, walls and partition framing; roof framing; roof trusses and sheathing.
