I will have music books and other instrument supplies for sale that might be needed for each individual instrument or they can be bought directly from the music stores. All students should have their instrument and book by the third week of school. I require 80% band class attendance for students to be eligible for field trips. I realize that a performance may have to be missed due to illness or family emergency. All performances count toward the student’s grade and I must have a written note from a parent or guardian for any missed performance. There may also be occasional daytime performances for the student body.

Six week grades will be determined by the following:
1. A playing test on a predetermined song in the student book
2. A written test on instrument fingerings or musical terms
3. Music worksheets done in class
4. Class participation
5. Scheduled performances – unexcused absences may result in missing the next scheduled field trip.

Every two times a students does not have their instrument in class during a six week period, their grade will be lowered by one letter grade. I will send a note home if this occurs. Students having no demerits during a six week period will have a free “no instrument” day during the following six week period. There are also weekly drawings for students having no demerits during that week.

There will be one band fundraiser per year, which takes place in the fall. The money raised goes to purchase new music, supplies, and instruments and also helps keep field trip costs as low as possible. Please support the band program by allowing and encouraging your child to participate in this fundraiser.

Students will need to purchase a red band t-shirt for performances. These will be available through the school for $10. Students will need khaki (light tan) colored pants to wear with their band shirt. Please sign and return the form printed below. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
