Mrs. Michele Lawhon, second grade teacher, was chosen by her peers at Medart Elementary School as the 2008-09 School Level Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Lawhon has been teaching in Wakulla County Schools for a total of 14 years. Most of those years have been in second grade at Medart.
Mrs. Lawhon is a product of Wakulla County Schools. She graduated from Wakulla High School in 1990. She received the "Chappie James Most Promising Teacher Scholarship" which assisted her in graduating from Tallahassee Community College and Florida State University. In addition to teaching, Mrs. Lawhon has served on committees such as the District/School Reading Leadership Teams, Project Learning Tree Committee, and Relay for Life Committee. As a veteran teacher, she has mentored other teachers and served as second grade level chairperson. With her distinctly clear voice, she serves as the MES Spelling Bee Pronouncer each year. She involves herself in many professional development activities and looks for ways to help others through our Sunshine Committee. Her community involvement revolves around reaching out to involve younsters in wholesome activities and helping people in need. She organizes and coordinates the Angel Tree at Christmas time and helps obtain needed school supplies for children in August. We are especially proud to have Mrs. Michele Lawhon on the Medart Team. |
