Flu shots will be available soon for Wakulla County public school students and staff in a collaborative effort between the Wakulla County School Board and the Wakulla County Health Department.
Information is being sent home with students in pre-kindergarten, elementary, and middle schools. This includes a Parental Consent form giving permission for the child to have the flu shot, plus an informative sheet from the Wakulla County Health Department.
Parental Consent forms must be returned signed to the school before shots can be given.
Children in Wakulla County Schools’ Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, First Grade and Second Grade must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian in order to receive the flu shot.
High school students in grades 9 through 12 can get a Parental Consent form from the front office at Wakulla High School. This information is broadcasted to WHS students every morning over the intercom. They also must bring in the signed Parental Consent form before they can get the flu shot.
Faculties and Staffs at each school site may also get their flu shot during one of the scheduled school times. WCSB personnel not attached to one school may get flu shots at any of the sites listed below.
Health insurance information on the Parental Consent forms must be filled out for children and adults. Health insurance will be billed for the shots. Those children or adults without health insurance also will be given flu shots at no charge.
“We want everyone to have access to getting a flu shot. It’s important when you think of how many students and adults we come in contact with every day. Cold and flu season is definitely upon us,” states Superintendent Bobby Pearce.
